My experience with Solar Panels and Batteries. I have had solar panels for donkey’s years and they have more than paid for themselves . A couple of years ago a salesman who I had met before called on us and offered to fit batteries and a new inverter panel. Having met him before I took up the offer. The fitting of the panels was quite an experience. The fitter travelled quite a distance and came on a bank holiday Monday – maybe that should have alerted me. He changed the meter that measured my generation of solar energy. When he left he said he would call me the following morning. All was well until it came to submitting information to my Feed in Tarriff (FIT) company. They would not accept the readings and when they discovered I’d now got batteries were very unhappy. No one had told me I needed to do that. What was worse was that when my gas plumber came to do the annual boiler check he informed me that because the batteries were within inches of the gas meter he would have to isolate our gas supply. To cut a long story short when I had a cold call from Smart Tech Energy (SET) I explained the problem with my FIT people and asked them to look at my set up. We were visited by their fitter (Daniel) who identified wiring problems and fitted new batteries and inverter. The system now works very well and in conjunction with an Economy 7 type tariff i.e. one in which I pay just 3p per Kwh overnight my total energy bills for our 3 bedroom house are just over £100/month – which includes charging the batteries of my hybrid car. My FIT tariff people remained a problem. With Daniel’s advice and help I spend best part of a year trying to sort them out. Suddenly about six months ago they suddenly accepted my meter readings and have paid me over £600 this summer. I have been very impressed by SET’s after sales help. I have had calls from their office asking how the system was working and have had one more visit by Danile to clean my solar panels. I would unhesitatingly recommend SET to anyone contemplating fitting solar panels and batteries.
